5 Questions to Ask Your Commercial Roofer

If you have a leaking or weather-damaged roof on your business property, you’ll either need roof repair, or roof replacement. For both of these tasks, you’ll need a commercial roofer.

Finding the right commercial roofing contractor for the job can be quite stressful, the last thing you’d want to do is to hire a roofer that does a terrible job or that rips you off.

So, what do you need to ask your contractors to ensure that they’re reliable?

Here are five questions you should ask your commercial roofing contractor before you hire them.

1. Do You Have a License and Insurance?

As a commercial contractor, your roofer will require the necessary license to carry out the work. Check out the license requirements for your state and ensure your contractor meets these, or they could be working illegally.

Insurance is another thing that you need to give serious consideration to. Nobody wants an accident to happen, but they do occasionally happen. Having the right insurance will protect you and your home.

Have a conversation with your roofer and find out what level of cover they have.

2. Will You Remove the Old Roof?

Do you need an entirely new roof, or will a roof repair suffice? It’s vital that you find out the full extent of the damage to your roof and what needs doing to it. You wouldn’t want to replace the entire roof if you didn’t really need to.

If your old roof requires removal, will your commercial roofer remove and dispose of the old roof? You may need to pay for a skip to dispose of the debris from your old roof.

3. What Experience Do You Have?

Find out what experience the commercial roofer has working on similar projects. Ideally, you’ll be able to hire a company that carries out lots of similar work.

Ask your contractor how often they carry out this type of work.

4. Can You Provide References and Testimonials?

References and testimonials are important. They let you know how the company has fared with previous clients.

Ask for references and testimonials, or head to a site like TrustPilot to find reviews online.

5. What Will the Project Involve?

If you have a weather damaged roof, you may be making roofing insurance claims. Will the roofers need to run everything through the insurance company first?

You may need a complete new roof, or you may just need some tiles replaced. Find out exactly what is involved in the project so that you’re clear about what will be carried out and when it’ll be carried out by.
