‘Tis the Season: Here Are the Perfect Fall Flowers to Add to Your Home

Is the forest on fire??

Nope. It’s fall!

You might think of fall as a time to shutter the windows and abandon the garden for good. But it doesn’t have to be that way. Many flowering plants grow well in cooler fall weather.

And these plants are a great way to spice up the inside of your home too. Bring colors of red, yellow, orange, purple, and pink into your yard this fall. Then make your own fire-breathing flower arrangements with fall flowers right from your garden.

Here are the perfect fall flowers to add to your home and garden.

Goldenrod

Contrary to popular belief, goldenrod does not bring on allergies. This beautiful plant is sometimes considered a weed. That’s because it grows almost anywhere and in any condition.

Goldenrod is okay with any soil type and prefers full sun. It creates a tall, bushy golden plume. And once it’s planted, it needs very little maintenance.

Chrysanthemum

These plants are better known by their nickname: mums. Mums love cooler weather. They aren’t picky about soil type and are considered one of the hardiest flowers you can grow.

Mums even grow well in a pot. So they’re great for apartment dwellers.

And the flowers are the absolute best part! Mums come in every shade under the rainbow. They also come in a variety of shapes and sizes.

Fill your garden with fall colors like rusty red, bright yellow, and deep maroon. Then clip the flowers to create beautiful flower arrangements. Mums have deep green leaves that look great in a vase.

Poinsettia

Okay, hardcore gardeners might disagree, but poinsettias are an essential fall plant. Poinsettia is a warm-weather plant… if you plan to grow it outside. But these plants do well indoors during the winter.

The blooms come as a result of shorter days. So if you want yours to start blooming in October, put them in a dark room for several hours starting about 6 weeks ahead of time. Then back to a window for full light.

Poinsettias grow flowers of pink, white, and red. These colors are beautiful in the fall, but also remind you that the holidays are just around the corner.

Pansies

Pansies like plenty of sun, but they also like cooler weather. This makes them perfect for your fall garden. There are even some varieties bred to live through light snowfall.

If you’re looking for royal colors, pansies are the way to go. Get a deep blue, purple, or gold variety to add color to your garden and flower arrangements.
